This month I am taking part in a month of drawing, posting one image per day. Today I have been exploring the architecture of part of the inside of an abandoned wasps nest that was found in the loft. It was massive - about a foot across at the widest section - and must have housed thousands of individual wasps.
I have been trying to depict the shape and depth of the hexagonal cells. This was just a very small section of one layer of a chamber. The top study is in ink and gouache and the bottom study is ink only. I find ink to be a lovely medium to use for these detailed studies, as it is very flexible on the page.
