This month I am taking part in a month of drawing, posting images every day. This afternoon I have been in Porthcawl on the south Wales coast, and it was a beautiful, hot sunny day. I wanted to draw the Porthcawl Lighthouse for today's sketches. The first image is in sepia ink and black charcoal pencil.
In the second image I have also included white goache, as the sky was becoming very hazy which lent a dark, mirror-like quality to the wet sand.
The tide was out this afternoon, so I walked back along the beach. The sand was drying in the most amazing, wavy ripples which reminded me of the intertwining dog motif in many celtic illuminated manuscripts and imagery.
