Introducing a series of paintings focusing in on details of historic London vehicles: highlighting subtle and perhaps overlooked aspects of their style and design.

This image is a celebration of line and texture: a view of an iconic double-decker bus in which its distinctive and dominant red colour is relegated to a corner. Instead, the focus is on its small London Transport badge, screwed to the front of the radiator.

This is, in fact, the front of an RT-type bus - a common sight on the capital's roads in the 1950s and 60s before the better-known Routemaster succeeded it. The radiator cap, grille and warning notice frame the badge, and the dents and discolourations of the passage of time are faithfully and affectionately represented.
