Hi All.
A big thank you to everyone who came to the event last night (15 September) for all the lovely comments about all the artists on show and for all who made it a lovely evening.
An especially big thank you to Father Saxby for allowing the church to be used as a venue. It really is a wonderful church and a special place for such an event. He also gave a great speech. I am really looking forward to next year's art trail.
Just finished setting up at St Barnabas Church, Walthamstow for the start tomorrow of the E17 Art Trail event.
I'll be around from 10-12am, Saturday 1 September and would love to see you there. Otherwise, do come along anytime Fridays 11am-1pm or Sat-Sun 10am-4pm until 16 September. There are 14 other artists at St Barnabas, and over 300 events in the Art Trail overall, so it's well worth a trip to Walthamstow during the next couple of weeks.
Just finding my feet with facebook :) It's a little scary - so many people with so many friends! I love the way you add a post to someone's wall. Permissable verbal graffiti... brilliant!! Where's the spray can...?
Just downloading some photos and found this one of the 'Varnishing Day' procession to St James' Church Piccadilly. I just love the way the cross appears to be leading the procession quite literally.
'Varnishing Day' is part of the tradition associated with the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where the opening starts with a procession to St James' for a service for the artists.
I can't believe it! On Friday I got my letter confirming that a print I had submitted to the exhibition was selected!! It still hasn't quite sunk in. They say that the exhibition is visited by nearly two hundred thousand people. Brill!!
Like Yayoi Kusama, I knew nothing about John Martin until I saw an exhibition of his a few weeks ago at Tate Modern. What captivated me most was his beautiful mezzotints (self-taught), where he achieved the most beautiful velvet blackness. It was tangibly lovely.
I also loved his moonlit skies that cropped up in many of his oils and engravings.
Room 14 is an amazing experience. It's like the Northern lights frozen in time into droplets of colour. I only wish you had the freedom to wander into the possibilities it suggested.
I also loved her mixed media work, especially the early pastel and paint pictures.
Thanks to everybody who turned up at the Handmade Market today. I had a really good day and met some really interesting people.
I hope to be posting some details of other events in early 2012. See you then!
